The "celebrate" principle of time management

There is often a misconception that having a successful and meaningful life would mean a major overhaul of your current living situations. People tend to think that achievers are all workaholics who sacrifice pleasure and relationships to stay at the top. Well, think again.

We do need to make every moment productive in order to get the best out of life. But not in the way one might think. The key to success does not lie in impossible work hours or a distraught family life. It lies in a simple word - "celebration".

The "celebrate principle" is an innovative approach to time management. It is not about how best to divide your time for career advancement. It is not about your "day job". It is about the bigger things in life, which are also ironically the simpler things. It is about how best we can utilize our time to get the best results, for life. Its key difference from all other time management principles is that it takes an entirely different view of productivity. It is practical, and it is stylish. It is something you can do, and would enjoy doing. It doesn't involve time tables or clock watching. It is just a way of life.

Here is how to apply the celebrate principle to life, and continue do what we are doing, with slight adjustments to get the best out of them. The important thing to remember here is that we are going to keep things simple, enjoy our life, and let success follow. It is just some things we can remember to do each day, every day, to make life better. If we can manage our time so that all these fits into our schedule, we are winning the game of life. Let's see how.

Celebrate people.

Each day, have some fun moments with the ones you love. Do something to brighten up the days of those around us. Sure, they are not perfect. Nobody is. Nobody ever had a perfect family that ran around cheerleading their dreams every single moment. They are only human, like you and me. So enjoy them a bit more. Celebrate your love, your friendships, your children. If you have to divide your time most effectively, a big chunk of it should go right here. Because when all is said and done, all you will remember is the love. Do something for your grumbling and irritable folks, and make them smile. Let them know you love them, through your words and actions. Make them feel special. Hang out with your friends. Do something fun together.

Celebrate little pleasures.

Have you forgotten to enjoy the rainbow, or the morning, or the sweet scent of coffee? That is a red signal to immediately stop and smell the roses! Every day, have a child's eye view of life's little pleasures. Cleaning the kitchen can be a little pleasure. Feeding your dog can be too. Reading something you love is a little pleasure too. Singing, dancing, watching your favorite TV show - allow yourselves to find some happiness each day. It will remind you not to take things too seriously, and relieve a lot of that "stress" everyone is talking about.

Celebrate laughter.

Have you laughed today? If not, head over to a funny website or colleague, and laugh a while. Better yet, share a joke with the ones you love. There's nothing like laughter to make a day perfect.

Celebrate health.

Right food, enough sleep, some exercise - all these are really important investments you make each day, to continue celebrating your life in the coming days. Don't skimp on those - learn to enjoy and appreciate a good meal, a hearty sleep and a fun form of exercise. There should always be time for these in your day.

Celebrate me-time.

Have some time set aside exclusively for yourself. This is to recharge your batteries and feel better about the whole life thing you are doing. Take a walk, meditate, listen to a song, read a book, go over your stamp collection - something you do just because you are you.

Celebrate dreams.

Do something each day, to help further your cause. Your cause here represents all those dreams you have stored away in your heart, because they may be "too big" or "unpractical" or "doesn't get you any money". This is the best part of the celebrate principle of time management. Take things one small step at a time. Do something towards living your dreams each day. It may even be something as small as getting the name of the lead character in your would-be bestseller finalized. Just take a small step forward. You will get there eventually, if only you would keep going. Let the passion burn alive, do the things you really enjoy doing.
