Power Dressing Techniques

Personality Development is all about cultivating and projecting a great personality. One of the most helpful ways to do this is through power dressing.

Power dressing is a form of dressing, especially in the corporate world, which makes you appear in control, confident and authoritative. In today's world fashions and trends change at the blink of an eye. But there are still some principles, mostly conservative, which remain unchanged. By following these principles, you can learn how to create an image of a powerful, collected, professional you.

Below, I am sharing 5 tips for power dressing. These tips can serve as a guide post in your quest to dress and look better. And remember, when you dress professionally, you feel professional. Studies have shown that wearing a smart suit can instantly make you feel more confident. And it projects the image of a confident person to the world!

1. Do not dress for the position you are in. Dress for the position you want to be in. If you want to advance in your career, this is the mantra to follow. Look at how the people on top of your chosen career dress - and get your ideas from there. Remember that I am not asking you to imitate or mimic any one person - I am asking you to get inspired from their look. Adapt it to your personal style and office dress code.

2. Stick to conservative when job hunting. When you go for an interview, dress in strict business formals, unless you are interviewing for a creative position in a firm where everybody dresses casual and you are expected to, too. Strict business formals means a conservative solid or pinstripe suit in a dark color, preferably black, gray, navy or dark brown.

3. Accessories should be few and classy. Your bag, your jewelry, your watch, your pen - everything should have a touch of elegance to it. Nothing overtly flashy, colorful, glittering or bling! Your choices should indicate you are a person of good taste. Shoes should be in good condition and polished. They should compliment your attire.

4. Hair and nails should be well-cared for and trimmed neatly. Hair shouldn't be colored in crazy hues, and it should be well-maintained. Make sure you have a neat hair style.

5. Wear something you are comfortable in. Find a dressing style that suits you, while adhering to the norms of your workplace. If you wear something that is going to make you ill-at-ease all the time, then there is no point in wearing it. The whole idea of power dressing is to make you feel and appear confident and authoritative.
