Living Congruently

In life, we often find ourselves in a state of conflict. We sometimes feel that our life is not going the way it should be. Stressors overwhelm us. We cannot feel true synergy in life. We feel that we lack balance and stability. If these ring a bell, then perhaps it is time for you to consider congruent living.

Living congruently means living in a state of balance. Everything in your life, every thought, action, project, dream, everything flows together and in the same direction. All aspects of your life are in sync. Your sense of purpose is startlingly clear, and your life path flows in that direction.

In order to live congruently, we need to tackle the conflicts in life. Let us see how we can synergize our life to create a peaceful, fulfilling flow.

Values and behavior

Very often, the cause of instability stems from a conflict between values and action. Our behavior sometimes does not reflect our true values. As a result, we feel guilty, tensed, stressed, unfulfilled and torn. When our values are in conflict with our actions, nothing gives us true sense of achievement or fulfillment. We need to look deep within ourselves and identify our values. Are all the things in your life reflecting those values? Your work, relationships and hobbies should all be in sync with your values. When we align every aspect of our life with our values, we can feel true peace.

Areas of life

Is there a conflict between the various areas of your life, say work and family, me-time and group-time, physical health, mind development, spirituality, health etc? These conflicts restrict and undermine our peace and well being. We may feel that the conflicts in some areas are inevitable. But there is no problem which does not have its own unique solution. Finding this solution is worth all the effort you put into it, because the returns are peace, balance, stability, increased productivity and fulfillment. Every area of our life should blend well, and flow towards our unique life purpose.

Purpose and actions

Do you know what your life purpose is? Purpose is often a burning desire which fuels your passions and makes you feel alive when you just think about it. Identifying your true calling is an important step in congruent living. It gives a sense of direction to your life. It is your own unique idea of fulfillment. Are your actions helping you to get closer to your life purpose? When actions and purpose are in conflict, there can't be true achievement. Often, the two criteria to know whether your action is in sync with your purpose, is to check whether (a) you enjoy your actions and (b)your actions add value.

Everyday life and whole picture

We may have all the big dreams in the world, but we may not be doing anything about it. This is unfortunately the case with so many of us. Our everyday life should pave the way to our ideal life. We need to ask ourselves, have I taken steps today that bring me closer to my vision of ideal life? Our daily routine must consist of elements that are in sync with our "whole picture." If they are in conflict, true congruence cannot be achieved. We need to balance our routine with that picture in mind.

A life with all the elements balanced and in flow - that is the spirit of congruent living. Once we balance the above mentioned four dimensions, we can start experiencing that true sense of fulfillment. Good luck!
