Rejuvenate your body, mind and soul
I have learned one thing from my experiments - I feel most energized and fulfilled when I do things which are good for my body, mind or soul. Therefore, I reasoned that if I could do justice to all three each day, it would be quite a day indeed. Therefore, I started experimenting with ways to do that. And I found that I am at my productive and cheerful best when I take time to make sure my body, mind and soul are fully catered to.
Here, I share how. I am sharing the methods I use to feed, exercize and rest my body, mind and soul each day. And days when I manage to do all 9 things - those are my perfect days. By making use of the ideas shared here and taking one day out of your life to try all nine, you can experience their power too. Doing any one of these can make us feel good by itself. But when we do all the nine things listed below, our body, mind and soul are fully refreshed. I can guarantee that you will feel much better than ever before on any day when you do all 9, or at least most of them.
Feeding the body, mind and soul
Eating healthy and tasty food makes me feel better. I always find that I feel much better after I have proper meals, compared to junk food. Proper meals do not make me feel guilty, unlike junk food. They also serve my body much better. Having proper food makes the entire body rhythm work well. And we can indulge in an occasional chocolate as a treat, too.
Reading has always energized me. I find that it is a great food for my mind. I get new ideas, concepts and information from the books I read. I also find that good television serves to feed my mind. Reading engaging and positive stuff online helps too.
I learned that like body and mind, our soul also needs to be fed. Meditation is the key to feeding the soul and filling it with peace and tranquility. When we are lost in the beautiful world of serene meditation, our soul is fully fed. Silent contemplation is also a great way to nourish the soul. Another way to feed our soul is to experience and enjoy nature. Watching sunset on a quiet beach, enjoying the view from a mountain top, walking barefoot on the Earth early in the morning - all these help us to enjoy nature at its best. I have experienced that silence and calm is necessary to feed the soul.
Exercising the body, mind and soul
I do not particularly like to work out. But while admitting that, I should also admit that the days when I do work out, I feel so much better. My body just loves all the action. Playing sports, swimming, walking, jogging, dancing, stretching exercises - anything and everything makes me feel so much more refreshed. I have realized that to make a perfect day, I would need to add in this component too.
I have always enjoyed puzzles and word games. They really challenge and energize the mind. I am not much of a trivia buff or quizzing enthusiast, but I have discovered that they are also ways to really work out my mind. Studying, researching, writing, teaching - all are work outs for the mind. And the more you exercise your mind, the stronger it gets - just like our body.
Exercising our soul is equally important. I find that every good deed I do strengthens my soul. Whenever I think, say or do something positive, my soul responds with a happy glow. Doing something good each day - even if it is just watering the plants or feeding a stray cat - makes me feel so much better. Volunteering for charity work is yet another great way to exercise our soul.
Resting the body, mind and soul
Getting quality sleep is of vital importance, and sadly it is often overlooked. When we realize its importance, we wouldn't cut back on this. Sleep helps the body to repair and rejuvenate itself. Good sleep is also necessary to help us wake up to a positive, fresh new day. When I do not get enough sleep, or sleep in longer than necessary, my bio-rhythm feels out of sync. It is very important to give the body the rest it needs.
Our minds are often running on over-drive for almost all day. Self-talk goes on inside our heads, and we are always analyzing and storing information. Our minds need their rest too. When I want to rest my mind after a busy day, I find that laughter is the best medicine. When I am watching funny videos or listening to jokes, my mood is instantly lifted. Being with people who make me feel free of care also helps. When I laugh or enjoy the company of friends, my defensive inner walls seem to go away. My mind is very rested and refreshed. I try to get in some laughter each and every day. As the saying goes, a day without laughter is a day wasted.
I find that my soul finds rest and solace in love. When I love others and feel loved, I feel secure, comforted and happy. We all have an inner child that craves love. And luckily, love is something that increases when we give it out. The love and care of family, friends, pets and the Universe itself is what makes my world go round. Not to forget the love of my readers. When our lives are filled with love, we feel our best. Nothing hurts more than a lack of love. And I have learned that the only cure for a lack of love is to start pouring out love...
As a footnote, I would like to add the more sincerely we do each of these, the more we get in return. For any of these to be of help, we need to do it wholeheartedly. For example, if you hate jogging but love dancing, then perhaps your way to exercising your body is in dancing. We always get clues about how to do things right. We just need to listen.
